CERTIFIED ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVES ( see complete list of CAEs in New Mexico, bottom of this page)
Since 1972, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has conducted a certification program with the following objectives:
¨ To raise the professional standards and improve the practice of association management by giving special recognition to those association executives who, by passing suitable examinations and fulfilling prescribed standards of professionalism and conduct, have demonstrated a high level of competence and ethical fitness for association management.
¨ To identify persons with acceptable knowledge of the principles and practices of association management, related disciplines and laws governing and affecting associations.
In order to maintain their designation Certified Association Executives must fulfill the specified re-certification requirements every three years.
To become certified applicants must have obtained career experience for the required length of time within the field of non-profit/association management, have obtained multiple hours of continuing professional development and have successfully completed a comprehensive examination, which tests fundamental knowledge of all areas of the association management profession.
To maintain certification, CAEs must accumulate 40 professional credits over successive three-year periods to demonstrate their continued involvement in association management, continuing education and professional activities.
More than 3,100 association executives have earned the CAE designation. Among association professionals, “CAE” indicates skillful leadership, activity in community affairs, and expertise in association management.
The American Society of Association Executives, Washington, DC, is an individual membership society made up of more than 25,000 association executives and suppliers. Its members manage leading trade associations and professional societies across the country, and also represent suppliers of products and services to the association community.
